Oscars 2023: All you need to know about the 95th Academy Awards I Times of Oman

The Oscars, officially known as the Academy Awards, are one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world of entertainment.  Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes the best and brightest talent in the film industry. Here is everything you need to know about the 95th Academy Awards ceremony.

Where: The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, USA.


When:
The ceremony will begin in Los Angeles on March 12 at 8:00 pm. Due to the time difference, the Live ceremony will be at 4:00 am on March 13, 2023.

The Host: 
Jimmy Kimmel – the host of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ This will be the third time he will be hosting the Oscars ceremony.

The Presenters: Deepika Padukone, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Troy Kotsur, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, Zoe Saldana, Donnie Yen, Jonathan Majors and Questlove.

The Performers:  Rihanna (Lift Me Up), Sofia Carson and Diane Warren (Applause), Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux (This Is a Life), and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava (Naatu Naatu).



The Indian Connection:

Three films from India have won nominations, with RRR getting attention for a catchy musical number Naatu Naatu, which was nominated for Best Original Song. 

Shaunak Sen’s ‘All That Breathes’ has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short.

Awards are given out in 23 categories, including film editing, directing, cinematography, acting, music, costume design, and makeup and hairstyling. The most anticipated award tends to be the title of best picture, with 10 films competing this year for one of the most prestigious distinctions in filmmaking.

A biopic on the life of American music icon Elvis Presley.


Everywhere all at once: An absurdist comedy-drama film set as a multiverse adventure.


The Fabelmans: Semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Steven Spielberg’s adolescence and journey into filmamking. 


Tar: Set in the world of  Western classical music, the film centers on fictional character of Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors.


Top Gun: Maverick : Action film in the much celebrated Top Gun series of movies.


Triangle of Sadness: A satirical black comedy that follows a celebrity couple on a luxury cruise with wealthy guests.

Women Talking:  Based on Miriam Toews’s 2018 novel of the same name.
