28-year-old Ukrainian national falls to death from 12th floor in Andheri

A 28-year-old Ukrainian national died after falling from the 12th floor of a high rise building in Mumbai’s Andheri area.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning, November 24, around 5:15 am, at SV Millionaire Heritage building in Andheri (West).

The Ukrainian woman identified as Ahnesha Dubyna was seated on the kitchen’s window and fell off after losing her balance.

Dubyna, who had landed in Mumbai only the day before, November 23, had moved into the 2-BHK apartment and was sharing it with three foreign nationals. Three women — a Russian national and Uzbekistan national, they were staying in one bedroom, while the deceased was staying with another Ukrainian national in the second bedroom.

She was sitting by the kitchen window, drinking wine and apparently fell after she lost her balance in an inebriated state. The building’s watchman got alerted after he heard a loud thud and found her lying in a pool of blood.

Soon the watchman informed other flatmates and took Dubyna to the Cooper Hospital, however, she was declared dead before arrival.

The DN Nagar police, who investigated in the matter, said that the Ukrainian national had come to India for the first time on a Business Visa.

Officials said that while the three women went off to sleep, Dubyna was sitting alone consuming alcohol. Her flatmates learnt about the mishap only after the building’s watchman came knocking on their door.

The police have ruled out foul play and have registered a case of accidental death as two empty bottles of wine were found by the window. Her body has been sent for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death and to check for intoxicants.

The city police reported the death and informed the Ukrainian embassy. Dubyna had come to the Andheri flat via a friend’s reference and had no prior connection with the Ukrainian roommate whatsoever, said an official.
