Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke has announced the government has struck a deal with the crossbench on the industrial relations legislation.
“Today is a really good day for workers’ wages and a really good day for workers’ safety,” he said during a media conference on Thursday.
“You’d all be aware for a long time there’s been discussions between myself, Senator Lambie and Senator Pocock trying to find a way through on the fact that the legislation that I introduced earlier this year contained a very large number of provisions.
“But also wanting to make sure we could get as much done this year as possible.
“I’m really pleased to say the goodwill and the good intentions from all of us have come together today for me to announce that there is an option available to Australia’s Senate to get a whole lot done today.”
