Kia Motors has officially unveiled the 7-seater version of the popular Sonet compact SUV in Indonesia. The SUV will first launch in Indonesia, which will be followed by other international markets. The 5-seater Sonet is already on sale in Indonesia.
The 7-seater Kia Sonet is produced at Kia Motor’s production facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. However, the SUV is not likely to be launched in the Indian market. The Sonet on sale in Indonesia sits above 4 meters in length, as it measures 4,120mm. The India-spec Sonet sits under 4 meters, measuring 3,995mm. Both models measures 1,790mm in width, 1,642mm in height, and offers a wheelbase of 2,500mm.
The 7-seater Kia Sonet looks identical to the 5-seater version on sale in India as well as in Indonesia. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets digital instrument console, premium 7-speaker Bose sound system, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and ventilated front seats. The SUV gets rear air-con vents. Adding to it, the new 7-seater Kia Sonet gets an additional roof mounted blower.
The 7-seater Kia Sonet comes equipped with UVO Connected car tech as standard. It offers multiple connected car features across different categories such as safety & security, navigation, remote access, etc.
The 7-seater Kia Sonet is powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the 5-seater model in Indonesia. This engine is capable of producing 113bhp of power at 6,300rpm and a peak torque of 144Nm at 4,500rpm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
For safety and security, the Kia Sonet 7-seater gets multiple airbags, rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ABS with EBD, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The 7-seater Kia Sonet won’t make its way to our market. In fact, Kia Motors will launch a new mid-sized SUV, codenamed KY in India in the first quarter of 2021. The MPV will be positioned between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova, in terms of pricing. It will rival the Mahindra Marazzo.
