BHUBANESWAR: The Directorate of Prison and Correctional Services has determined to lengthen the kiosk facility via which the inmates can know about their case status and bail purposes, to all jails throughout the State. Currently, the kiosks are working in 16 jails of Odisha.
Opened inside the final three months, these services outfitted with computer systems and web connection have been put in at 9 district jails, 4 circle jails, two particular jails and one feminine jail in the State.
The Odisha Model Jail Manual-2020 emphasizes on reforms, expertise and safety, and the kiosks had been put in to be sure that the authorized rights of the prisoners are fulfilled, stated Director General of Prisons and Director Correctional Services, Santosh Kumar Upadhyay.
“The facility will help the inmates to know about their case status and bail applications in the Supreme Court and Orissa High Court. The kiosks have staff to assist the inmates and share the information with them after collecting the data online,” he added.
In one other improvement, the Home division on Wednesday allowed the restoration of the mulakat (one-to-one-interaction between guests and inmates) facility in all jails in adherence to COVID-19 precautions.
The Directorate of Prison had written to the Home division on February 9 looking for its approval to restore the bodily mulakat which was suspended in March final 12 months after the coronavirus outbreak. In a bid to guarantee trouble free dialog between the guests and the inmates, toughened glass home windows with 16 pairs of intercoms have been put in at Special Jail Jharpada in the State Capital.
