‘Always with you’: Bratya’s open letter to govt teachers | Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Education minister Bratya Basu has written an open letter to teachers of state-run schools, reiterating the Bengal government’s commitment towards welfare of the community that has helped bring down the student dropout rate.
The minister chose the format of the letter, which was meant to mark the occasion of Teachers’ Day on September 5, to add a personal touch and build bridges with the teaching fraternity. The communication channel between the government and its teachers has remained clogged owing to frequent agitations, the most recent being a suicide bid by five in front of Bikash Bhavan in August.
The letter said the state had launched a portal — Utsashree — on July 31 to ensure a transparent transfer policy for teachers. “A 20-member team of officers has been engaged to improve and update the portal,” Basu wrote, urging teachers to cooperate by providing necessary data. Teachers can place a request for transfer to a school near home through the portal, he said.
He also informed that the government had earlier digitised employment-related data of teachers working at state-run/aided schools on a separate portal. “We are always with you,” the letter added.
