Armed forces get emergency financial powers to fight Covid

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday granted emergency financial powers to the three providers to permit formation commanders to set up and function hospitals in addition to quarantine services for COVID-19 sufferers.

The defence ministry mentioned vice chiefs of armed forces together with chief of built-in defence workers to the chairman chiefs of workers committee and GOC-in-Cs and equal rank holders of all three providers have been given full powers.

It mentioned the corps commanders and space commanders have been delegated powers up to Rs 50 lakh per case whereas division commanders and sub space commanders and equivalents have been delegated powers up to Rs 20 lakh per case.

The emergency powers have been sanctioned to the armed forces final 12 months too when the COVID-19 pandemic first broke out.

The ministry mentioned the grant of the powers had helped the armed forces to sort out the state of affairs quicker and in an efficient method.

Last week, the ministry sanctioned emergency financial powers of Rs 5 crore to the director common of medical providers of the three providers for COVID-19 associated procurement.

Emergency powers for procurement price Rs 3 crore have been delegated to Major General rank medical officers whereas Brigadier rank medical officers may have the powers to make purchases price Rs 2 crore.

The defence minister already directed all of the three providers and different wings of the ministry to do their finest in extending help to the civilian administrations throughout the nation in coping with the pandemic.
