The first Talking Preps basketball show of the season airs Monday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. On tap:

Find out who are the 12 boys and 12 girls players to make the Mr. and Ms. NC Basketball Watchlists. Two of them may win the state’s biggest high school basketball awards in March.

We also debut our mid-season All-Observer boys and girls basketball teams with coach and player of the year.

The panel talks about the John Wall Holiday Tournament in Raleigh and the Anthony Morrow Shootout in Charlotte, and what the future of both events might look like.

We talk surprise teams of the season, and Gary has a not-so-surprising take on a burgeoning power in Iredell County, and Rick and Cameron talk about North Meck’s Isaiah Evans’ 45-point performance against Chambers Friday.

Sammy Sen, our new high school correspondent, sits down with Ardrey Kell’s Brock Rose for an in-depth 1-on-1, and new Hough High basketball star Trey Horton stops by to talk his recruitment to UTEP, shooting 3s and to face Randall on The Game Show.

Randall and Rick break down the area’s top 10 boys and girls games of the week, and finally Gary and Randall face off in “Coach vs. Coach.”

Topics this week: Can Clemson win the ACC? Are pop-up high schools and leagues like Overtime Elite good or bad for the high school game? And is it time for North Carolina to add the shot clock?
