Raleigh, Durham, Cary sanitation scores: June 6
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of May 31 to June 6.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County sanitation grades database shows that 91 restaurant inspections were completed May 31-June 6.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
▪ Two restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
La Buena Vida (4516 Falls of Neuse Rd. in Raleigh) received a score of 86.5% during an inspection on June 1.
The restaurant was in violation of 28 standards. Of these, 12 were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included many hot and cold foods stored at incorrect temperatures, ready-to-eat foods were kept for longer than 24 hours without recorded dates and too many foods were being cooled at one time.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 94% in January 2023 and 96% in August 2022.
Thai House Cuisine (1408 Hardimont Rd. in Raleigh) received a score of 88% during an inspection on June 5.
The restaurant was in violation of 26 standards. Of these, 12 were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included repackaged raw beef and raw chicken were “intermingled” in the walk-in freezer, noodles on the kitchen shelf were stored at an improper temperature and bottles of bleach and other chemicals were improperly labeled.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 95% in December 2022 and 97% in September 2022.
▪ No restaurants received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but less than 80%.
▪ No restaurants received a failing grade, or a score below 70%.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 28 restaurant inspections were completed May 31-June 6.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that 15 restaurant inspections were completed May 31-June 6.

Johnston County sanitation scores
The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 20 restaurant inspections were completed May 31-June 6.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade.
▪ One restaurant received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Niko’s Pizza and Bar (9005 B Cleveland Rd. in Clayton) received a score of 87.5% during an inspection on June 2.
The restaurant was in violation of 12 standards. Of these, eight were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included an employee handling bread for a sub sandwich with their bare hands, an employee handwashing sink did not have hand soap and ready-to-eat foods were stored on the same table on which raw meat was being handled.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
- The restaurant previously scored 96% in March 2023 and 91% in December 2022.
▪ No restaurants received a C grade, or a score of at least 70% but lower than 80%.
▪ No restaurants received a failing grade.

The Chatham County inspections management system shows that that two restaurant inspections were completed May 31-June 6.
