A Michigan husband managed to turn a lottery loss into a big win — but he didn’t believe it at first.
Nicholas McCreary, 37, said he likes to play the $6,000,000 Jackpot game, and he always double-checks his tickets by scanning them on the Michigan Lottery app.
When he does that, the Grand Rapids man earns entries into second-chance drawings, according to a Sept. 19 news release from the Michigan Lottery.
His scanning paid off during the Sept. 13 drawing.
“I was going through my emails and saw I had one from the Michigan Lottery saying I’d won $100,000,” McCreary told lottery officials. “At first, I thought it was a scam email, but after looking it over a second time, I thought everything looked pretty legitimate.
“I called the Lottery, and that’s when I learned that I really had won!” he continued. “Winning threw me off, made me shaky, and gave me butterflies all at the same time!”
He claimed the $100,000 prize on Sept. 19, and now he plans to visit India, according to the release.
“My wife and I have been wanting to take a trip to see the Taj Mahal, so I am going to use my winnings to finally make it happen,” McCreary told lottery officials.
