Biosecurity an ‘important pillar’ of Australia’s $66b agriculture industry

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud says biosecurity is an “important pillar” in protecting over 300,000 jobs associated with Australia’s $66 billion agriculture industry.

During Question Time on Tuesday, Mr Littleproud touted the federal government’s ambitious Ag2030 plan to see the agriculture industry grow to $100 billion.

“We backed it with cold hard cash, not only in the October budget, with over $800 million committed … but only in last month an additional $400 million to support and to beef up biosecurity to meet the evolving threats that are facing up to Australian agriculture,” he said.

“We are saying to those Australians in agriculture that biosecurity will underpin our future.”
