Bombay High Court today set aside death sentence to three accused in Shakti Mill gang rape case. The accused now will have to spend entire lives behind the bar and will not be entitled to parole or furlough so that they can’t mingle in society. The court has awarded rigorous imprisonment to the accused for entire life.

While setting aside the death sentence, HC bench said that, Shakti Mill gang rape case has shocked the conscience of society. But only public outcry can’t be taken into account. In 2013, a 22 year old lady photo journalist had gone to Mumbai’s defunct Shakti Mill compound with a male colleague. Five men appeared and raped the girl taking turns. A session court had awarded death sentences to three accused. This case has shocked entire Mumbai.
