The mental health of teens and young adults has ‘sharply’ been deteriorating

Orygen Executive Director Professor Patrick McGorry says the mental health of teenagers and young adults has “sharply” been deteriorating for the past 15 years across Australia.

“I wouldn’t say a tsunami, but we certainly got a big surge, a wave of increased prevalence,” Professor McGorry told Sky News Australia.

“We have responded but it is too little and it’s too slow … young people are dying as a result of that.

“A sense of urgency is required.”
