IR reforms pass despite business group smears

The government has the political support to pass aspects of its IR reforms that have been the subject of a multi-million dollar smear campaign by the business lobby.

Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke has announced the government has struck a deal with the crossbench on the industrial relations legislation.

The bill will include the criminalisation of intentional wage theft and a new offence of industrial manslaughter.

More support for workers in the gig economy will be legislated and they will be regarded as employees.

Independent MP Dai Le has flagged concerns over the ‘same-job, same-pay’ laws and how they will impact small business.
