Delhi begins administering “precautionary dose” of Covid-19 vaccine – New Delhi Times – India Only International Newspaper

In the wake of the third wave of coronavirus infections, Delhi on Monday began giving persons aged 60 and up, healthcare personnel, and frontline workers who received their second dose of vaccine nine months ago a third or “precautionary dose.”

From Monday, around three lakh patients will be eligible for the third dose.

The recipients will receive a booster dose of the same vaccine they received 39 weeks ago as a precaution. They’ll have to use their existing Cowin account to book a time window.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized precautionary vaccinations for vulnerable groups and individuals who are at increased risk of developing Covid-19 on December 24.

So far, around 2.4 lakh beneficiaries in this segment in Delhi have received their first dose. Since the vaccination campaign began on January 16, over 2.75 crore doses have been administered in the city. Both doses were given to a total of 1.16 crore people.
