Differences in ‘diplomatic approach’ versus ‘security approach’ towards issue of China

Perth USAsia Centre CEO Professor Gordon Flake says Australia is seeing differences between its diplomatic approach and security approach when it comes to the issue of China.

"I think, largely what we're seeing is differences in the diplomatic approach versus the security approach," Professor Flake told Sky News Australia.

He said there has been a "lot of incorrect, unhelpful and inaccurate commentary" on the issue.

"On the security side of the spectrum, ambiguity is not your friend, and so you want to avoid the risk of miscalculation."
