COVID testing in schools won’t make ‘much difference’

Infectious disease physician Peter Collignon says the proposal for more COVID testing in schools won’t make much difference.

“The reality is that children are not the biggest factor in the spread of COVID in society, it’s disproportionate to adults within the ages of 20 and 40,” he told Sky News Australia.

“So, it’s more the parents and teachers rather than the students.

“Unless you’re actually going to attack where most spread occurs which is inside homes, bars, clubs, and pubs.

“Concentrating on children who are at the lowest risk themselves and the lowest risk overall of transmitting it to others is really putting a lot of eggs in the wrong basket.”
