Elderly man’s death: SHRC registers suo motu case

KOCHI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a suo motu case in reference to the loss of life of an aged man who had been left unassisted for almost an hour on MC street close to Kalady Junction.

According to officers, Perumbavoor native Govindankutty, 70, had been mendacity by the roadside. However, it was reported that individuals have been reluctant to assist him fearing Covid. 

Though police personnel had arrived and gave him water, they needed to wait almost an hour for an ambulance to reach. The transportation was delayed even after the ambulance arrived as the driving force didn’t have a PPE package out there. 

Govindankutty had handed away by the point police officers donned PPE kits and took him to the hospital.
The human rights fee had registered a case primarily based on media experiences and directed the Ernakulam DMO and District Police Chief (Rural) to probe the incident and submit their report inside 4 weeks.
