Embiid Injured as 76ers Lose to Wizards | Sports Pundit

The Philadelphia 76ers lost star man Joel Embiid to injury as the Washington Wizards pulled back a game in their NBA first round playoffs series with a 122-114 win on Monday.

Embiid left the court late in the first quarter and did not return, with the 76ers stating it was “right knee soreness”.

The 76ers center appeared to land awkwardly on his backside, rather than his knee while coach Doc Rivers was none the wiser as well.

“No I don’t (know anything),” Rivers said post-game. “Obviously it was the middle of the game so I didnt really check.

“I knew he was out. I’m not even sure what it was. I think it was knee or the back.”

Philadelphia still holds a 3-1 lead in their series but missed out on the chance of a clean sweep.

Russell Westbrook was heroic for the Wizards with another triple-double, finishing with 19 points, 21 rebounds and 14 assists.

Bradley Beal had 27 points for Washingto, while Rui Hachimura added 20 points and 12 boards.

Ben Simmons continued to struggle from the stripe, going five-from-11 with the Wizards fouling him late on after the 76ers drew level at 106-106.

Rivers insisted he wasn’t worried by Simmons’ issues, while the player said: “I’m not afraid of that strategy. I’m not upset. I’m not really worried about people fouling me. It’s basketball.”

Elsewhere, the West’s top seed Utah Jazz claimed a 3-1 lead against the Memphis Grizzlies with a 120-113 victory on Monday.

Donovan Mitchell top scored with 30 points as well as eight assists, while Jordan Clarkson came off the bench to add 24.
