EPL Wrap: Solskjaer Defends Pogba’s Tackle, Spurs Stay Perfect | Sports Pundit

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has leapt to the defence of Paul Pogba for his controversial tackle in the lead-up to the winner in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton.

Pogba came in with studs up on Ruben Neves but the referee waved play on in the lead-up to Mason Greenwood’s decisive 80th minute strike.

“Last week we were told they wanted to keep the game flowing. Today they kept the game flowing and I think it was a fair challenge (by Pogba),” Solskjaer said.

“I said weve got to be careful not to make the basketball game that we had last year everyone could fall over and it was a free-kick but to make sure we dont get into rugby.

“We have to look after the players. I thought the refereeing has been good over three weeks. I watch Match of the Day, you watch some of the full games and theyve been told to keep it more lenient and flowing.

“When it goes against you, youll moan just for a little bit and then youll move on. When it goes for you, youre happy and you dont want to talk about it too much.”

The goal was Greenwood’s third in three games this season as United move up to third spot behind leaders Tottenham who are the only side remaining with a perfect record.

Tottenham maintained their 100 per cent winning record with a 1-0 victory over Watford as Harry Kane returned to the starting line-up.

However it was Son Heung-Min who came up with the winner, with an elusive free-kick late in the first half.

Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: “We had clear chances to kill the game and transform the result. So, with all that, I’m very happy because the players worked very, very hard.”

Elsewhere, Burnley and Leeds United drew 1-1 as Patrick Bamford scored ahead of England duty.
