Australian Turf Club Chairman Peter McGauran says the value of the land at Rosehill Gardens made it “impossible to say no” after the land value increased as the government announced they would install a Metro West station at the racecourse.
Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens will be relocated and replaced with 25,000 homes as part of plans for a $5 billion radical housing plan for the Metro West.
The Australian Turf Club will work with the New South Wales government to develop and negotiate the plan in 2024.
“Once the government agreed to install or construct a Metro West station here at Rosehill Gardens, the value of the land made it impossible to say no,” Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia.
“For $5 billion, and that is the conservative estimate of the development, we can do things to secure the ATC and racing in Sydney for the next 100 years.
“We can refurbish our racecourses at Canterbury, at Warwick Farm, the training facilities at Randwick.”
