VIJAYAWADA: The State authorities has issued a Standard Operating Procedure for the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), constituted to curb illicit distillation and smuggling of alcohol, to dispose of the contraband seized by it.The SEB has filed a big quantity of circumstances and seized 2.8 lakh litres of unlawful liquor. The AP Excise Act, 1968 and AP Prohibition Act, 1995, supplies possibility for disposing of the seized contraband by means of confiscation to the State or by public public sale or by destruction.
According to the AP Excise Act, the contraband, which can’t be preserved or not match for human consumption, could be destroyed. Similarly, the Act additionally has a provision to confiscate the contraband or the seized property to be offered by public public sale or dispose of departmentally.
In a GO issued by ex-officio principal secretary to authorities and DGP D Gautam Sawang, the Commissioner, SEB, said that as per AP Excise (Disposal of Confiscated and Other Articles) Rules, 1969, the destruction of the liquor is just not the primary selection. “The destruction of such property might lead to big loss to the State and wastage of useful resource as it’s authorities property after confiscation. In the previous too, the seized contraband have been auctioned which helped in lowering the wastage of sources and added worth to the State exchequer,’’ the GO stated.
