Gypsy Sport and The RealReal Partner on a New, Upcycled Denim Collection

Given The RealReal’s stock is entirely vintage or second hand, Uribe says the website was the perfect retailer to partner with on the project. Like The RealReal, he wanted to give new life to old clothing. “They have created an amazing space for savvy second hand sellers and shoppers, and they’ve been instrumental in helping to shift the narrative of secondhand with both consumers but also our industry as whole,” he says. “For this specific project, The RealReal contributed 100 pairs of damaged and dead stock jeans from their own inventory which couldn’t be recirculated on the site.”
Having a genderless and size-inclusive angle for the drop was important to Uribe, too (sizes range from XS to 2XL). Of course, it’s a spirit that has always been present within Gypsy Sport, but Uribe felt that denim was a particularly all-encompassing fabric. “Denim is so ubiquitous,” he says. “You can find jeans in every person’s wardrobe—no matter their age, gender, race, or size.” The designer adds that this special collaboration is something he hopes to continue doing on a larger scale. “I’ve always wanted to be the designer who could repurpose or resurrect damaged goods for bigger fashion brands,” says Uribe. “After years of working for brands like Balenciaga and Gucci, I realized just how much inventory is discarded and rejected for minor damages. Since then, I’ve always had this urge to repair and recycle those goods into new pieces that the company could sell, proudly.”
