Israel: Dozens of individuals died in the northern Israeli city of Meron on Thursday evening after a stampede at a big public gathering to have a good time the Lag B’Omer Jewish competition.
Rescue companies say at least 44 individuals have been killed and a few 150 hospitalized in the incident.
Scenes from Meron hours after the accident confirmed an ultra-Orthodox Jewish crowd in misery, with particles scattered throughout the bottom.
Some survivors had lit candles for the victims whereas others prayed at a close-by wall.
Emergency companies and ambulances “are treating dozens of injured,” together with “20 patients in a critical state,” Zaki Heller, spokesperson for Magen David Adom, the Israeli emergency service, stated in a press release.
It was not instantly clear what precipitated the stampede.
Media reviews initially stated a bit of stadium seating had collapsed at the occasion web site. But officers later stated it appeared that the casualties had been asphyxiated or trampled in the stampede.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “heavy disaster” and added: “We are all praying for the wellbeing of the casualties.”
