KOCHI: Yet once more, members of the Jacobite faction of the Malankara Church tried to enter a number of churches throughout the state, which had been handed over to the Orthodox faction, on Sunday. Though the clergymen and laity members went to churches throughout the mass, they had been stopped by the police on the gates.
As a part of strengthening their protests, the Jacobites had been attempting to re-enter the churches for the fourth consecutive Sunday.
The Jacobites had been blocked by police at churches together with Piravom Valiyapally (St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral), Pazhamthottam St Mary’s Church, Vadavukode St Mary’s Church, Puthencruz St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, Kanniattunirappu St John’s Church, Thrissur Chalissery St Peter and St Paul’s Church and Thrissur Mannamangalam St Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Church.
After the Jacobites had been blocked in entrance of the Piravom church, a sit-in protest was staged by senior clergyman Rev Mikhael Rambaan.
They later dispersed after conducting prayers on the gates. Similar protests had been reported from over 50 churches which had been taken over from the Jacobite faction.
Meanwhile, forward of the potential takeover of the Kothamangalam Marthoma Cheriyapally with the assistance of central forces, the faction has began preparations to forestall it.
Matha Maithri Samrakshana Samithi, a neighborhood group specifically fashioned to protest in opposition to the takeover of the church, has introduced a warning protest on Monday in opposition to use of the Central Reserve Police Force to take over the church.
