Jyotiraditya Scindia: Meet India’s New Civil Aviation Minister After Hardeep Singh Puri

New Delhi: Hours after reshuffling the Union Cabinet, the Narendra Modi-led Central government on Wednesday night announced portfolios for the new ministers. As per the latest list, BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia has been give the charge of Ministry of Civil Aviation. Notably, Scindia is among the prominent new faces that have been inducted into the Modi cabinet in a major overhaul. Born in 1971 and educated in Harvard and Stanford institutions, Scindia has come along a long way after contesting his first election as a Congress candidate in 2002, a by-election in Guna Lok Sabha constituency. Notably, his father Madhavrao Scindia who died in a plane crash had held the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

50-year-old Scindia resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP in March 2020 and his move triggered a chain of events that finally culminated in the collapse of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh just 15 months after its formation.

  4. Aswhini Vaishnaw is now Union Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Railways.
  5. Piyush Goyal is being given additional charge of the Ministry of Textiles.
  6. Hardeep Singh Puri has been given charge of the ministries of Urban Housing and Petroleum.
  7. Smriti Irani will be the minister in charge of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD).
  8. Purshottam Rupala has been given charge of the Ministry of Dairy and Fisheries.
  9. Meenakshi Lekhi is now Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
  10. Anurag Thakur has been given charge of Ministry of Sports and Youth Development along with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
  11. Pashupati Paras is now Minister for Food Processing.
  12. Giriraj Singh will take charge of the Ministry of Rural Development.
  13. Bhupender Yadav has been given charge of the Labour Ministry.
  14. Kiren Rijiju is now Minister of Law and Justice.
