Karnataka: 66 medical students in Dharwad test positive for COVID-19
In Karnataka, the SDM Medical College near Dharwad has reported a COVID-19 outbreak with 66 medical students contracting the infection. The college hostel has become a super spreader and is declared as a containment zone. The entire hostel has been isolated and the COVID positive persons shifted to a block and those awaiting RT-PCR reports are kept separately.
The Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil has informed that 400 students have been tested for the infection, out of which 66 were tested positive till today morning. Tests are done for other students and medical staff. He said that most of the students have mild symptoms.
The District Administration has appealed that all primary and secondary contacts of the students must get their COVID tests done. The Medical College Administration has said that all the students have been vaccinated with two doses. It is suspected that the cases multiplied when a freshers’ party was organised recently to welcome the first year MBBS students.
