Keira Knightley’s Golden Gucci Dress From 2006 Just Reappeared on Paris Jackson

Vintage fashions are currently at the top of the style agenda for Hollywood stars, whether it’s Zendaya rocking a green and black spring 2002 Versace couture gown at the NAACP Image Awards, or Jennifer Aniston wearing Tom Ford-era Gucci. The latest to revisit a piece of red carpet fashion history? Paris Jackson who just wore a mega Noughties throwback to the Fashion Trust US Awards in Los Angeles earlier this week.

The 24-year-old actor and model revisited the exact same gown that Keira Knightley wore to the London premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean back in 2006. The shimmering gold evening dress—from Frida Giannini’s era at Gucci (fall 2006, to be precise)—has a deep plunging neckline, a corseted leather belt with hardware details and a wrap detail on the skirt which leads to a thigh-high slit. Jackson made this throwback look entirely her own by accessorizing the gown with gold bangles and a tan pair of bronze platform sandals.

At the time Vogue’s Chief Critic Sarah Mower wrote about this Gucci collection: “Gold pantsuits, Ziggy eyes, ultra minis, and patchwork purple crocodile biker jackets: Yes, Frida Giannini is doing glam rock.” The designer said to Mower about her inspiration—“I was thinking of David Bowie and the way people played with their image to be something different every time they went out in the seventies. It’s less romantic and more about energy and showing off.”

Knightley has recently witnessed a red carpet resurgence this month, and this month wore an equally amazing gold evening look, this time by Simone Rocha, to promote her new film, Boston Strangler. Knightley will herself never revisit this Gucci gown, as at the time she explained her plan was to donate it—“I’d like to give it to charity for them to sell. It’s not the kind of thing you can get away with wearing twice.”
