Kerala confirms 13,468 new COVID positive cases, 21 deaths
Kerala continues to report surge in COVID figures as it confirmed 13,468 new COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday. The capital city of Thiruvananthapuram has reported the highest number of infections with 3,404 fresh cases. The test positivity rate has increased and at present the TPR stands at 20.16 percent. 21 deaths were also confirmed due to COVID today. With this the death toll due to Covid in the state has reached 50,369. Bringing respite, 3,252 recoveries were also reported today. At present, 64,529 is the active caseload in the state.
Meanwhile, State Health Minister Veena George informed that 59 more Omicron cases were also confirmed in the state today. With this the total number of Omicron cases confirmed in the state has reached 480.
Ms. George said that stringent action will be taken against institutions in the state which try to conceal and fail to inform the formation of COVID clusters. The Omicron cluster formed in a private nursing college, in Pathanamthitta, was not informed to the health department. The minister has directed the district medical officer to take action against the institution. The health minister said that the health department should be immediately informed if Covid cases are reported in large numbers in a particular area, region or institutions.
State Education Minister V. Sivankutty said that a final decision on functioning of schools in the state in the midst of rapid omicron spread would be taken tomorrow.
