Hong Kong’s stocks rise over 1%, other Asian markets decline
Asian shares today ended with a loss except for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng which rose 1.6 percent. South Korea’s KOSPI declined 2.2 percent, Japan’s NIKKEI-225 fell 0.4 percent and China’s Shanghai Composite index slipped 0.3 percent. Singapore’s Straits Times index ended almost flat.
European shares were up in intra-day trade. Germany’s DAX was is green but trading flat while France’s CAC added 0.1 percent. London’s FTSE 100 was trading 0.8 percent up when reports last came in.
Meantime, Wall Street ended lower at the beginning of a holiday-shortened week yesterday as rising U.S. Treasury yields pressured interest rate-sensitive mega-cap shares.
The S&P 500 fell 0.4 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index declined 1.4 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average index managed to add 0.1 percent.
