Man charged after allegedly splashing petrol on wife and setting her on fire

A man has been charged after allegedly splashing petrol over his wife and setting her on fire.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to a home on Elizabeth Drive in Liverpool about 6pm on Saturday and found a 30-year-old woman with burns to her left leg and left hand.

She was treated by paramedics, then taken to Liverpool Hospital for further treatment before being released.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the home and he was taken to Liverpool Police Station.

He was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“Police will allege in court the man splashed petrol over his wife’s clothing before lighting a cigarette, which set her clothing alight,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

The man has been refused bail and will face Parramatta Bail Court later on Sunday.
