Market Close 26 Nov 21: ASX 200 follows regional stocks lower on WHO Covid warning

The ASX 200  ended lower on Friday, marking the third and worst fall of the week. The retreat for local share market was part of a broader experience throughout the region on Friday, which saw leading stock indices down by as much as 2.7% in the case of the Japanese Nikkei, while money flowed into safe havens like government bonds and the Japanese Yen. Sellers were mobilised after the World Health Organization highlighted concerns with respect to the South African strain of the Covid 19 virus. Travel related stocks were targeted by sellers following reports of travel bans in response to the spread of the South African variant of Covid 19, including news that U.K. will temporarily suspend flights from a number of African countries.
