Meghalaya Government hopes to achieve herd immunity of COVID 19 in the next one or two months as a large number of the people have been vaccinated.
Commissioner and Secretary of Health Department, Sampath Kumar said that around 45 per cent of the State’s population has been vaccinated. This is a significant change given the fact that the State was at the bottom of the list in terms of vaccination coverage in the past. He said the Department expects to achieve a certain level of vaccination that can help achieve herd immunity, in the next one to two months.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya reported 515 fresh new COVID 19 cases including 14 deaths out of which 12 were not vaccinated in the last 24 hours. The total number of fatalities due to COVID 19 has reached 1,147 and the deaths were reported from the districts; East Khasi Hills- 08, Ri Bhoi- 03, West Garo Hills-02 and West Jaintia Hills- 01. The number of active cases stands at 5,515 and the total recovered cases are 61,445. Till date, the number of people vaccinated has reached 11,35,909.
