A recent incident was reported in Mumbai when a guard Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s special protection group (SPG) was robbed in Mumbai. As per reports, members from a particular gang stoke his wallet, and used his debit cards. The incident was reported to the police, post which the Andheri Government Railway Police (GRP) caught two members of a gang who were involved in the robbery.
The incident was reported on November 6, 2021, when the victim had reached Mumbai from Orissa. While on his way to Prabhadevi, he received a message regarding fund withdrawn from his account, soon after which he realised that his wallet was stolen. He reported the incident to Andheri GRP who filed a complaint.
Several such incidents have been reported in the past where wallets, purses, etc. are robbed, and the credit and debit cards are swiped for money soon after the robbery, before the victim realises.
Andheri GRP conducted an investigation and busted the gang. Two members from the same – Raanu Virendra Pandey and Haider Shaikh – were arrested. Detailed investigation and interrogation was conducted when the accused informed that the wallet was robbed and given to them within minutes, post which an amount of INR 4000 was withdrawn from the account.
One of the accused also informed that over 50 such credit and debit cards are given to him by several robbers on a regular basis. A senior officer from the Andheri GRP informed the Mid-Day that the arrest has been under the various sections of the IPC and IT Act.
