Mumbai to play Gujarat in WPL 2023 opener: Report

The first season of the Women’s Premier League (IPL) will start on March 4 and the final will take place on the 26th. As per the report by Cricbuzz, the Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians’ women’s team and the Adani Sportsline group’s Gujarat Giants will play the opening game of the tournament.
In the league, the Mumbai and Gujarat-based teams are the two most expensive teams. The Ahmedabad team was purchased for INR 1289 crore, while MI purchased their women’s team for around Rs. 912 crore.

The same report also states that the 2023 WPL season will take place exclusively in Mumbai. The opening game between Mumbai and Gujarat will host at DY Patil.
On February 13, the player auction for the first season is likely to take place in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the WPL will have a new format under which the team finishing first in the league table will automatically advance to the final. While the teams that finish second and third will compete in the eliminator, with the winner making the summit clash.

After the end of the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, the tournament will kick off just days.
