MVA fields Rajan Salvi for Assembly Speaker post against BJP’s Rahul Narvekar

In Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Aghadi, a coalition of Shivsena, NCP and Congress today fielded Shivsena leader Rajan Salvi against Rahul Narvekar of Bharatiya Janata Party for the post of Speaker of State Legislative Assembly.

The Speaker’s election is scheduled to be held tomorrow.

The Speaker’s post has been lying vacant since February last year after the resignation of Congress leader Nana Patole. However, with the new government now in place, election for the post is being held tomorrow.

Mr. Narvekar joined the BJP before the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Elections and contested from Mumbai’s Colaba Constituency, is a son-in-law of Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar. Mr Narvekar had won the polls, defeating Congress’ Ashok Jagtap. Previously, Mr. Narvekar had been associated with the Shivsena and NCP.

The deadline to file the nomination for the Speaker’s election ended at 12 noon.
