Nalco to invest Rs 30,000 cr for expansion overdrive

BHUBANESWAR: The Navratna Central public sector enterprise Nalco will invest round Rs 30,000 crore on the corporate’s expansion and diversification plans by 2027-28, stated Union Minister for Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi on Thursday. 

Addressing the forty first Foundation Day of the aluminium main right here, Joshi stated the corporate will spend over Rs 7,000 crore on the fifth stream refinery, Pottangi bauxite mines, transportation system from south block and Utkal D and E coal mines. 

The relaxation Rs 23,000 crore might be spent on smelter and captive energy plant expansions, together with the expansion of the corporate’s smelter plant at Angul with the development of a 1400 MW feeder.The bold development plans of Nalco, Joshi stated, will contribute considerably to the alumina and aluminium sectors having a multiplier impact within the manufacturing and consumption of the strategic steel. 

The Union Minister stated the Central authorities has been extending all spherical assist to the mineral wealthy Odisha to keep away from any interruption within the mineral manufacturing of the nation. 

On the requests made by the State to expedite the public sale of mineral blocks, he stated, the federal government will amend the foundations in order that clean manufacturing of minerals might be ensured and non-serious gamers barred from collaborating in bids.

“The Union Government has approved the proposals to allot two iron ore mining blocks to Odisha Mineral Corporation and one block to Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (OMECL) on the request of the State government,” Joshi stated.

Joshi stated Nalco in affiliation with Odisha authorities can also be organising a world class Aluminium Park at Angul. This will encourage growth of downstream and ancillary industries, creating large employment alternatives within the space and boosting native entrepreneurship.

Highlighting the corporate’s efficiency, Nalco CMD Sridhar Patra stated the export earnings accounted for about 59 per cent of the gross sales turnover within the first half of the fiscal. A caustic soda plant arrange as a part of a three way partnership with Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd is probably going to be commissioned by mid-2021 and can guarantee regular provide of caustic soda, he stated.
