NASA’s Perseverance rover successfully secures Mars rock sample

NASA's Perseverance rover appears to have retrieved a rock sample from Mars on its second attempt after last month’s endeavour saw the sample crumble into fine dust.

New images show a rock core securely picked up by the rover after its latest drilling attempt.

If the extraction was successful, it would be the first ever rock section collected on another planet intended for return to Earth.
