National Cabinet has ‘wrapped a secrecy blanket’ over public interests

Independent SA Senator Rex Patrick says the National Cabinet has "wrapped a secrecy blanket" around Cabinet meetings, and is fighting to challenge the government on the cabinet's validity.

"There's a very important principle we have in our democracy that the government works for us... and we're entitled to engage in discussion, debate, criticism, and congratulations in relation to everything they do," he said.

"You can't do that unless you're properly informed... National Cabinet talks about whether we should wear masks, whether we should have border closures... they're pretty important things and things we ought to discuss and debate and put into the media.

"There is only one federal minister in that cabinet and what's happening here is the Prime Minister is unilaterally expanding the cabinet to include COAG and no one's allowed to have access to any of the documentation."
