Novak Djokovic’s visa status ‘not a matter for state government’

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says issuing visas and inspecting the vaccination status of those who wish to enter Australia is “not a matter for state governments”.

It comes after tennis player Novak Djokovic had his visa revoked and reinstated – but still faces the threat of deportation by Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.

“If the immigration minister wants to use his quite extraordinary powers that’s a matter for him,” Mr Andrews said.

“Issuing visas is not one of the responsibilities that I have, others have those responsibilities.”
