Health authorities are confident New South Wales will soon be past the peak of the Omicron wave despite 48,768 new COVID cases.
The optimism is being fuelled by a sharp decline in the growth rate of active cases and hospitalisations.
Current hospital admissions and ICU rates are reportedly tracking better than ‘the best case scenario’ released in modelling last week.
That data predicted there would be 3,158 COVID patients in hospital at the peak including 270 in ICU.
Today’s figures show 2,576 patients were hospitalised, including 193 ICU admissions.
