In a tweet, he has said that this historic win will inspire generations of sports persons. AIR correspondent reports that the bronze in Olympics in the men’s hockey has sent feel-good waves across Sundergarh district in particular and Odisha in general and rightly so.
Firstly, as the Olympic medal has come to India after a gap of 41 years and secondly because Sundargarh district in Odisha has been the cradle of hockey in the country which has nurtured some of the best hockey players in the world like former Captain of the Indian hockey team Dilip tirkey and Lazarus Barla.
The present winning team too has two brilliant hockey stars namely Amit Rohidas and Birendra Lakra from Odisha. This apart, the Indian women’s hockey team, currently aiming high in the Olympics too has Namita Toppo and Deep Grace Ekka as the teammates from Odisha.
