Two people are missing after a house burst into flames north of Melbourne overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Tallarook-Pyalong Rd property in Tallarook, about 90km north of the city, following reports of a fire just after 11pm on Sunday.

A witness from another home nearby raised the alarm and told authorities she heard explosions coming from the home.

Police said there were “concerns” for the two occupants of the house, who remain unaccounted for.

“A crime scene has been set up and detectives from the arson squad will attend the scene this morning with forensic specialists,” a police spokesman said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the fire are yet to be determined at this stage.”

The house was destroyed and authorities continue to search for the two missing people.
