Parents who purchased a toy for his or her daughter from an El Mirage, Arizona, thrift retailer discovered greater than 5,000 fentanyl capsule inside, the Phoenix Police Department mentioned.
The mother and father, who weren’t named in the information launch, cleaned a glow worm toy at their north Phoenix house and found a sandwich bag inside with greater than 5,000 tablets, police mentioned Saturday.
Phoenix police mentioned the mother and father contacted them and handed over the tablets.
“Great job parents! Remember, please inspect all opened and used items for your family’s safety,” police wrote on Facebook.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid and is 50 to 100 instances stronger than morphine, in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overdose deaths from fentanyl are rising, rising over 16% from 2018 to 2019, the CDC mentioned.
“They’re very dangerous,” Sgt. Mercedes Fortune of the Phoenix Police Department instructed KTAR News. “Very small amounts of fentanyl can end someone’s life.”
Fortune recommended the mother and father for checking the toy earlier than giving it to their youngster.
“It might not just be pills or anything illegal, but it might be something sharp or might be something else that could hurt the kids,” she added.
