Police register case of sedition in connection with Red Fort incidents

New Delhi, January 28

Delhi Police have registered a sedition case in connection with the violence at Red Fort throughout a tractor parade by farmers on Republic Day, officers stated on Thursday.

According to a senior police officer, a case underneath Section 124A (sedition) of the IPC has been registered and the incident is being investigated.

Earlier, police had named actor Deep Sidhu and gangster-turned-social activist Lakha Sidhana in an FIR lodged in connection with the Red Fort incident.

Thousands of protesting farmers, who reached ITO from the Ghazipur border, clashed with the police. Many of them, using tractors, reached the Red Fort and entered the monument.

They hoisted flags on the domes and positioned the flagstaff on the ramparts of the nationwide monument, the place the nationwide flag is unfurled by the Prime Minister on Independence Day.

The Red Fort will stay closed for guests from January 27 to January 31, based on an order issued by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

While the order doesn’t point out the rationale behind the closure, it refers to earlier orders of January 6 and January 18, whereby the monument was closed from January 19 to 22 because of a bird-flu alert. PTI
