Selena Gomez Wants the Bullying of Hailey Bieber to Stop

There’s nothing pop culture loves more than a presumed rivalry, particularly one between women.  That’s exactly the narrative that actor and singer Selena Gomez and model Hailey Bieber have had foisted on them ever since Bieber began dating Justin Bieber, her current husband and Gomez’s ex, in 2016. The Biebers have been married since 2018, yet alleged drama between them and Gomez remains a hot-button subject among the trio’s fans.

Despite the two posing for a photo together last November, rumors about the relationship between Gomez and Bieber (largely fueled by TikTok conspiracy theories) have flown for months, with Bieber recently being booed at one of her husband’s concerts. On Friday, though, Gomez took a definitive stand against that kind of behavior.

”Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez wrote in an Instagram story. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop ❤️.” Hopefully, Gomez taking the time to send a clear message about personal attacks on Bieber (or anyone) being out of line will encourage her fans—as well as fans of Justin’s—to lead with civility and stop harassing women on the internet, no matter how famous they may be.
