Sensex slips 127 pts to end at 56,178; Nifty falls 14 pts to 17,355
At the stock markets, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 127 points, or 0.2 percent, to end at 56,178, today.
The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange shed 14 points, to 17,355. But the broader market outperformed the Sensex, with the BSE Midcap index inching up 0.3 percent and the Smallcap index rising 0.8 percent.
Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, the Metal index was the leading gainer, rising 1.5 percent.
The Basic Material index rose 1.1 percent; the Telecom, the IT and the Tech indices advanced 0.7 percent, each; the Realty index gained 0.6 percent; the Healthcare index added 0.4 percent and the Utilities index moved up 0.2 percent.
Among the declining index, the Energy index lost 1.5 percent and the Bankex shed 0.5 percent.
