Hyderabad: In an unexpected act that is now drawing public anger, collector P Venkatarami Reddy, Siddipet, touched the feet of Prime Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday during an official event at the headquarters of Siddipet district.
The incident occurred after KCR inaugurated the newly built collection area in Duddeda after the MLA camp office and commissariat was inaugurated. As a matter of ritual, KCR had the collector seated in his room.
Shortly afterwards, Venkatarami Reddy, along with his wife and son, touched KCR’s feet and sought his blessings, as well as the shocking general secretary M Somesh Kumar and other senior officials present.
This gesture provoked sharp criticism from various quarters that the collector had pledged the self-respect of the IAS cadre officers at the feet of the prime minister. Netizens tagged the IAS Association to condemn Reddy’s gesture.
To the harsh criticism, Reddy responds by explaining that he received only the blessing of KCR, which he considers a fatherly figure, for the sake of Father’s Day. He said it was not right to make a big deal out of it.
‘It’s nothing new to take blessings from elders during functions. As a man who wanted the establishment of Telangana and wanted to implement the schemes of the Prime Minister, I felt like taking his blessings on Father’s Day. “Do not make unnecessary problems out of this,” Reddy said in a statement.
KCR began its district tours from Siddipet on Sunday and inaugurated the MLA’s camp office, police commissioner and built-in district collector complex at headquarters. He was accompanied by Finance Minister T Harish Rao, Home Affairs Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, R&B Minister Vemula Prasanth Reddy, General Secretary Somesh Kumar, DGP M Mahendar Reddy and other officials.
