Six killed while disposing of explosives meant for quarrying in Karnataka

Chikkaballapur: Six individuals have been killed when the gelatin sticks they have been making an attempt to dispose of exploded by accident at a stone quarry web site in a village right here early on Tuesday, police mentioned.

The incident comes shut on the heels of an analogous blast at a quarry web site in Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s hometown of Shivamogga on January 22, which left six useless.

 

Karnataka Health Minister Okay Sudhakar, who represents the Chikkaballapur constituency visited the spot and mentioned the our bodies of the victims have been badly mutilated and scattered everywhere.

According to police, the incident occurred at Hirenagavalli close to Peresandra.

Quarrying was stopped by the police on February 7 following complaints from the locals towards rampant use of gelatin sticks. Yet, it continued clandestinely following which one other raid was carried out just a few days in the past and the contractor was warned to not use gelatin anymore. The males working there went to dispose of the explosives in the wee hours of Tuesday when it went off by accident.

 

Meanwhile, Sudhakar mentioned stringent motion could be taken towards the house owners of the mines, who had saved the explosives illegally.

He added that police investigations are on into the matter.
