BHAWANIPATNA: Jaipatna police on Tuesday busted a robbery gang – their kingpin a trainer – that was concerned in freeway crimes in the district. Kingpin, 34-year-old Alekha Thakur, is a trainer in Khapramal Upper Primary School in the district. He is a resident of Dahagaon village inside Koksara police limits.
The relaxation are in the age group of 26 to 36 years and hail from Meidalpur in Nabarangpur district, Dharamgarh, Golamunda, Junagarh and Bhawanipatna. Police seized 4 bikes, `2.70 lakh money, 11 cellphones, two knives and as many lathis from their possession.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Narayan Naik mentioned the gang was concerned in a freeway robbery incident on December 10. The accused individuals had intercepted an MUV on Mukhiguda-Mahulpatna ghat highway in which 4 cattle merchants have been travelling. The merchants of Doraguda village in Rayagada district have been on solution to Jaipatna weekly market to buy cattle when the armed accused individuals looted `5.22 lakh money from them and fled the spot.
Naik mentioned police had detained the accused individuals on Monday and through interrogation, they admitted to their involvement in the robbery. It appears the college trainer had fashioned a bunch which focused merchants coming to Jaipatna. “Police have launched an investigation to ascertain if the gang was involved in any other robbery incidents in the area. Efforts are also on nab other associates of Thakur, if any,” the SDPO added.On the day, the 9 accused have been produced in court docket and remanded to judicial custody.
